About this book
In this book Lewis tells of his search for joy, a spiritual journey that led him from the Christianity of his early youth into atheism and then back to Christianity. This book, together with his early diary All My Road Before Me, form the closest thing we have to an autobiography.
"This book," Lewis says in his opening sentence, "is written partly in answer to requests that I would tell how I passed from atheism to Christianity and partly to correct one or two false notions that seem to have got about." One of the most important Christian spiritual autobiographies in the last 100 years.
'He is admirably equipped to write spiritual autobiography for the plain man, for his outstanding gift is clarity. You can take it at two levels, as straight autobiography, or as a kind of spiritual thriller, a detective's probing of clue and motive that led up to his return to the Christianity he had lost in childhood.'
