From The Cover

The Knights of St. John, also known as the Knights of Malta, were founded as a hospital/military order during the crusades and became not only the greatest medical resource in the Holy Land but elsewhere in Europe and also became the major bulwark against the Muslims throughout the next several hundred years. This DVD tells the history of the Knights, from their origins during the crusades to their present day status as a humanitarian organization.

Four years of filming, research, and interviews will provide the viewer with an unforgettable saga of the Order's climb to become one of the most admired international relief organizations in the world. There are approximately 11,000 Knights and Dames of the Order around the world. The eight-pointed white Maltese cross with its brilliant red or black background stands out everywhere as a symbol for charity towards mankind as well as a comfort and consolation to the sick and poor. Producer Ray H. Marr attended the inaugural opening of the Order's Jubilee Year in December 1998. It marked the beginning of the 900th year of service.
