Evaluator Comments

All Ye Lands Student Text World Cultures And Geography is a Fabulous World History text from the Catholic Textbook Project!! I was particularly impressed with it's descriptions and explanations of geography, which is usually lacking in a history text.

Overview :
  • 16 Chapters covering 352 pages fully indexed
  • Covers the time periods in World History from prehistory and the Stone age through the early 20th century.
  • Full color pictures on glossy thick paper means it is nice for the eye and the hand.
  • Vocabulary is bolded within the text and defined in the margins.
  • Maps throughout of voyages, land acquisition, etc.
  • Chapters end  in a review "Let's Remember," which are questions  for retention and comprehension on the events of the story.
  • "Let's Consider" is paper or discussion topics that ask for thinking beyond the surface of 'what happened' and focuses on why, how and what do we think about that today.
  • Then there is "Let's Eat!" a paragraph on food of the time.
The chapters are divided geographically and go through the history of each peoples.
1.       Introduction to Geography
2.       Prehistory : Beginning Man's Story
3.       The Mission of Israel
4.       The Marvelous Greeks

10.   China: The Middle Kingdom
11.   Japan: Land of the Rising Sun
12.   India: World of the Rajas
13.   Africa: The Enduring Continent
14.   Russia: The Third Rome
15.   North America: Land of Opportunity
16.   Latin America: The Sleeping Giant

The Catholic Faith is intricately and beautifully woven throughout the text.  For example on the first page of the first chapter is a beautiful picture of the earth from space and is subtitled "God's Creation, God's Gift."  As the text goes into defining and describing geographical terms in word, picture and illustrated maps our stewardship and appreciation of creation comes shining through.  There is such a respect given for the peoples who don't share our faith, but are described with their own incredible strengths and tragic weaknesses and the gifts their culture has given to ours.

The introduction on page ix states, "As this volume shows, it (Catholic Textbook Project) will be a series which on the one hand honors the Catholic faith and on the other is not afraid to be honest and comprehensive in its treatment of the past."   I have found this statement to be absolutely true in this textbook.

This World History book isn't your father's Cadillac.  It's a work of art in word, in picture, in breadth and depth.  SERIOUSLY, this is a GREAT BOOK!

The full color maps and pictures, along with the exciting insets and the well-balanced, age appropriate text interwoven with Catholic principals made me feel like my child needed to read this textbook.  It's a treasure I give to my children in introducing this book to them.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND All Ye Lands Student Text World Cultures And Geography.
