When I became a reviewer for Tiber River I knew exactly which book I wanted to review first.  The timing could not have been more perfect as it was just before Advent! Advent, Christmas and Epiphany in the Domestic Church was my go-to resource  this year as our family observed Advent, and we are still using it as we move toward the Epiphany! This book is loaded with so many wonderful ideas and activities, none of which were either too young or too old for any member in our family!  In addition to all the fun we had, we learned so much about this lovely season!
The two things our family enjoyed the most were making the Advent Wreath and the Jesse Tree.  We found both of these activities to be so helpful in keeping us mindfully directed toward the true reason for celebrating Christmas.  My girls could hardly wait each day to put a new ornament on the Jesse Tree, or for Sunday evenings when we would light the next candle!  It changed the focus of their anticipation to Christ and not Santa Claus!  One of the things I personally found helpful was having the words to so many of the special Advent songs!  I tend to suffer a bit lyric-idous which is always a source of great fun around here.  I'm not sure my kids were as happy as I was to have the lyrics to the songs since there were fewer funny mis-haps this year as I stumbled through them!
If you struggle with putting everything together during Advent and Christmas, I would definitely recommend this book!  There is a lot here though, so don't be overwhelmed by all the possibilities.  Just choose a few things and try them, and then maybe add more next year!  It is so easy, especially this time of year to want to try to do everything, and then we often become so bogged down in all of it, we end up doing nothing!  I've found it's better to do a few things well, than to do many things poorly or not at all.  Even if you only chose to make an Advent Wreath or perhaps the Jesse Tree, you will find that this season takes on so much more meaning!  This book was so helpful, I am looking foward to seeing the other books in this series!
