Synopsis

The book, “The Temperament God Gave Your Kids” by Art and Laraine Bennett is the third book in a series detailing the four types of temperaments that people have and how to use the knowledge to make life easier. The first book was about your temperament, the second about your spouse’s temperament. This installation details how parents can relate to their children according to temperament.

I recently read the book “The Five Love Languages of Children” and expected this book to be similar. Although there were some similarities, these books are totally different and useful in their own rights. I first used the appendix in the back of the book to determine the temperaments of each of my three sons. Of course, all three of my boys have different temperaments! Each chapter describes a temperament in complete detail and I saw many many similarities between my sons and the temperament description.

The chapters each tell the pros and cons of each temperament and ways for parents to relate to the temperament. For example, I have a phlegmatic older son who is easy-going and lets others run the show. According to the book, children with this personality can become lazy and also let others run them over. Now I know to make sure that my son completes his school assignments (a problem we have been having lately) and to watch how he behaves with friends.

I think that this book is a very useful resource for parents, especially those who are confused as to how to approach their children who seem to have polar opposite personalities from themselves. This book is easy to understand and enjoyable to read. Keep “The Temperament God Gave Your Kids” in mind next time you are looking for a great parenting book to read.
