I joined the Catholic Church five years ago after having no religious training in my childhood. I have three sons who were 1, 3, ad 6 at the time I joined the Church. I spent a lot of time searching for a book that would teach me what Catholic mothers were supposed to do to pass on the faith and generally living out thier faith. I could find no such book. The few books I found that were intended for Catholic mothers were written for homeschoolers rather than for all Catholic mothers.
Recently, I purchased "
The Handbook for Catholic Moms" after it sat on my Amazon wishlist for quite a while. I was amazed when I began reading and realized that this is the book I was searching for 5 years ago! I am happy to see that there is now a resource that I can refer Catholic moms to so that they can learn about their faith and how to be a truly Catholic mom.
This book is divided into simple sections where the reader learns about the different aspects of a healthy life. All of the chapters tie in with Catholicism and none of them are ridiculously lofty topics that no mom could possibly put into practice. This book is completely orthodox and has a wealth of web links for moms to get more information about every topic covered. I abhor when an author uses her book as a lengthy advertisement for her own website but this author does not keep referring readers to her own website (though she mentions it in the resources when appropriate) so I was very glad of that.
This book is versatile and appropriate for all moms, especially those who are new to the Catholic faith or are Cradle Catholics who never learned how to live out the Catholic culture. Any mom who is looking to deepen her faith life and pass it on to her children needs to grab a copy of this book- and soon! It is too good to miss!
