Evaluator Comments
The Beatitudes for Children by Rosemary Gortler and Donna Piccitelli is a beautifully written book for children and their parents. The authors have coupled with Mimi Sternhagen who illustrates the book in inviting and colorful pictures. There are eight lessons for children and their families to read and apply to their lives. Each Beatitude is explained with loving reference to Jesus Christ and key words to highlight each lesson. The content is easy to read and can be applied to all ages of life. Each lesson includes questions or things to ponder that are relevant to both the Beatitude and the reader’s life. Lastly there is a prayer specific to the Beatitude listed.
This book allows many teaching opportunities from the Eucharist to Mother Teresa. The Scripture for each Beatitude is highlighted and provides a wonderful opportunity to take out the Family Bible and read the Scripture reference with the book. Additionally, for those families with younger children, the pictures are created so to give the reader a visual of what the Beatitude is trying to convey. This provides great teaching opportunities even with your little ones.
I am very pleased with the orthodoxy of this book. I believe it is hard to find books that are Catholic in nature providing the child reader with insight and Truth about our faith. The Beatitudes for Children accomplishes this beautifully!
