Meditations for women, not just mothers.
I was hoping for something that would help me feel closer to God during the ups and downs of motherhood. This didn't really do that. It was enjoyable and a few pieces that were truly wonderful. Unfortunately, for the most part I was a bit let down by this.
It wasn't exactly written for mothers so much as just women in general. Any woman could have picked this book up and benefited from it. I honestly felt like I could hand this book to any woman no matter what her role in life. I had been expecting something that I would want to give to every mother I know but not every woman. This detail makes me hesitate to recommend it to mothers without giving them a bit of a disclaimer that the title doesn't completely fit the contents of the book.
I enjoyed the book when I stopped looking for something that was written for mothers. As a woman I found many pieces that inspired me and strengthened my relationship with Jesus. As a mother I was often disappointed. Motherhood is only looked at occasionally and even those are glossed over more than anything. The book would have been much better if there had been more that was written directly for mothers and offered meditations for the parts of motherhood that leave many mother's exhausted and feeling miles and many dirty diapers away from God.
