I've read quite a few C.S. Lewis books over the course of my life. I've read everything from the Chronicles of Narnia to Mere Christianity and The Problem of Pain. However, I never picked up The Screwtape Letters. Over the years I heard quite a few people talking about this book and how good it is, but I never took the time to pick it up and read it.
I'm glad I finally decided to read it. This is a truly amazing book. It really makes a person think. After picking up a copy tor read, I could not put it down. It grabbed my attention and drew me in to the story.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this wonderful work, here is a brief description of it. This book is written as a series of letters between devils. Screwtape is giving advice to his nephew, Wormwood. Wormwood is a relatively young demon and is receiving advice on how to tempt humans from his uncle, Screwtape.
What I think is truly phenomenal about this book is the dialogue that Screwtape has with Wormwood. C.S. Lewis does a phenomenal job at getting into the minds of demons. He does a great job showing his readers how demons work in our lives to tempt us.
This book is a weapon. It is a weapon in our arsenal to help us battle the demons in our lives and to resist the temptations they give us. As I read this I became aware of how I'm being tempted in my own life. The devils and his tempters all work in the same way. They use the same approach with all of us, slowly leading us down a path of depravity. If you want a book that will give you a great insight into how a tempter works in your life read this book. It will arm you with the knowledge you need to resist the temptations of the devil.
