Evaluator CommentsI ended with this book somewhat by accident. I remembered seeing a comprehensive apologetics book and I assumed this was the one. When I opened the plastic wrap I was at first disappointed but once I read the index and started reading a chapter my mistake became a windfall. Aside from a Bible, this is the one resource EVERY APOLOGIST MUST HAVE. A typical apologetics book will have a number of common objections to Catholicism with scripture-based replies that explain Church teaching. The Essential Catholic Survival Guide has this as well, but this 70 chapter, 533 page book is much more well-rounded than other similarly styled works. If you want need to understand the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception there's a chapter for that. If you're having trouble explaining the Inquisition or the Galileo controvesy this book can help. If you want to know more about the Bible translation you're using, there's a section on that. Can't answer questions that Jehovah's Witnesses are asking or want to learn more about their evangelization strategy? Seven chapters on the subject. Need a collection of common Catholic prayers? They're in the back. There is even a whole chapter recommending other apologetics books you can use to augment your collection - and they're sorted by topic. At $24.95 The Essential Catholic Survival Guide:Answers to Tough Questions About the Faith must be part of your collection. The chapters are short but thorough and everyone one of them is written in an engaging style. You can purchase this book here.
