Evaluator CommentsWe've been gettng Magnifikids since my oldest learned to read several years ago, and before that I would get them for the godchildren. My son, now age 9, still loves them. Each issue contains the full text of the Sunday's mass, including a note where there is more than one option (such as the opening prayer said by the priest). Parts of the Mass are color-coded so kids can see which parts they say, and which are said by the priest. There are of course the usual directions to sit, stand or kneel where appropriate. In addition, there is a cartoon ("Brother Goodventure"), a puzzle page, a suggested activity tied to the week's readings, and a prayer page. Sometimes there are additional educational pages, and they are always top notch. One of my favorites was an explanation of a typical day of benedictine hours of prayer. We save our back-issues because the kids love to re-read them. Production quality is high -- each booklet is in full-color, and the illustrations are top notch -- none of the campy, ethnocentric 50's-era artwork that is sadly typcial of many otherwise edifying catholic children's books. Print quality is high -- the ink *will not rub off on your hands*. In addition to the Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation editions through the year, for Holy Week there is a separate issue for each day of the Triduum, in addition to a missal for Easter Sunday. (The Holy Week issues are matched to the tone of each day -- the Good Friday edition is somber and omits the cartoons and puzzles, for example.) I can't recommend these enough. They introduce the kids to the faith and to following the Mass in a way that is fun and accessible. As a catechist, a mom, and a godmother, this is one on my favorites.
