Synopsis

Breakfast with the Pope

Evaluator Comments

Put together by one of my closest friends, Bert Ghezzi, this is a devotional book of the Pope's sayings collected from a variety of sources. Though sometimes his words are quite heavy, Benedict's depth of understanding is phenomenal. Sometimes his words seem detached from every day experiences, but once you understand what he is trying to communicate, his words are clearly relevant, especially in regards to ethics and morals.

Selections from the book are pulled from a large variety of sources. Some of the quotes are from his books, some from the Pope's first two encyclicals, some from his homilies, and some from talks that he has given at events like World Youth Day. This wide variety is appreciated since it led to a wealth of topics being touched upon. This books covers everything from work, to family life, to devotion to Christ, to Church unity, and manby other topics.

Like I mentioned before, this book is 100% words straight from the mouth or the pen of the current Pope. So let that be a warning to you that much of the book requires deep thought and serious reading. It is definitely not a beginniner's theology book or a comforting, light devotional book. Still, this is a great devotional for intellectuals or those who really appreciate the Pope's thoughts and work.
