Divine Mercy Chaplet

For busy moms, commuters, and just about anyone in this technological age, fitting prayer into the day is given a great boost by quality CDs to guide one’s prayers. 

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy has always been a favorite for me.  It is not only deep in its theology and so closely connected to the ultimate sacrifice of God’s Son, but it is short in its repetition, and therefore I can keep track of the words to pray while I work.  This Divine Mercy Chaplet Prayed to the Stations of the Cross CD is truly well done, a mix of spoken prayer and song with background music, sound effects, and a meditation on the Stations of the Cross for each section of the chaplet.  The reading of the stations is profound, solemn and in character, and I appreciated the mixture of the two traditional practices.

If you despise country music, I wouldn’t recommend the CD however.  The tune for the “Eternal Father…” part of the Divine Mercy Chaplet is a bit twangy, enough to make one think of country music without being overt about it.  For me, all the music was just right to get in my head, so that I found myself being unconsciously prayerful after listing to the CD.  An added bonus of prayers set to music!  I particularly liked the rhythm of the “Holy God…” prayer that is said three times at the end of the chaplet.

I listened to the CD in the car, and it’s just right for your 15 to 20-minute commute, to give you a break from the Rosary CD you might already have, or to keep you focused without having to fuss with beads or keep track on your fingers when you’re supposed to be driving.

My only wish is that the case would have the track numbers available so I could more easily find where I left off if I forget to look at the display screen before ejecting the CD.  There are 36 tracks, and the CD moves through them quite quickly as the chaplet goes on.  In order to utilize all the stations of the cross, the chaplet is presented three different times, with some bonus songs in between.

I am thinking ahead to Lent and the Easter season already, and I would highly recommend this CD as a gift for an RCIA candidate or catechumen, as well as for one’s own practice of prayer during the Lenten season.
